Dan Walker missed a spot in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing semifinals after being voted out of tenth celebrity.
The BBC breakfast host was among the last two for the first time on Sunday night, despite consistently being at the bottom of the leaderboard throughout his contest.
Dan and his partner Nadiya Bychkova landed in the dance-off alongside AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington, who had suffered “a complete dance disaster” even in the live show on Saturday thanks to a tricky lift.
Dan and Nadiya re-performed their Argentine tango to Santa Maria by Gotan Project, while AJ and Kai re-performed their salsa to Gloria Estefan’s Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, hoping to stay in the competition.
Dan Walker and Nadiya Bychkova were voted out of Strictly Come Dancing
The jury unanimously voted to keep AJ and Kai in the competition after upgrading their previous performance and sending Dan and Nadiya home.
Craig Revel Horwood said, “Well, I have to say Dan, I think you did such a great job on the dance-off, it’s the best I’ve ever seen dance! AJ, you totally mastered the last piece, that was fantastic, a dilemma, but the couple I’m going to save are AJ and Kai. “
Motsi Mabuse called it “another strong dance” and added: “It’s just a great year and being part of the team is absolutely sensational. Dan, you did a great job, you did AJ, the better job for me, and I’ll save AJ and Kai. “
Anton Du Beke also said: “It was a huge dance, congratulations to both of you. You danced great, but the advantage for me is simply AJ and Kai. “
With the outcome already decided, Shirley Ballas agreed that she would also have voted to save AJ and Kai.

After his elimination, Dan joked: “By the way, I would have saved AJ and Kai too!”
He described his time at the competition as “absolutely amazing” and said he “really loved every second of it”.
As a tribute to his dance partner Nadiya, he said, “This amazing woman grabbed my hand and brought me to this dance floor. I’m not a dancer, but she showed me that I can dance and that it was an absolutely amazing experience for me.
“There are some people who come into your life and turn on some lights, and that’s what she did to me. You are a great person, and when you have me, you have a friend for life, Nadiya Bychkova. “
Nadiya added, “As he said, sometimes the right person comes into your life at the right time and it happened. You always encourage everyone, you always have time for everyone, it just inspires me to be a better person myself. “
The remaining four pairs will now compete against each other in the live semi-finals next Saturday.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. on BBC One.
